Every school year Feed the Kids provides thousands of meals to students who are putting in extended hours after school while rehearsing for and performing in Theatre Conservatory productions.
How Feed the Kids evolved
The Theatre Guild's Feed the Kids program developed as a result of a need for fast, affordable healthy meals. After a full day of classes, there were often late nights when the cast and crew were expected to stay on campus long past dinner time. With few options available, the head of the Theatre Conservatory called upon a group of parents to help provide meals that would allow the students to focus on preparing for the upcoming performances.
What Feed the Kids does
Today Feed the Kids is headed up by parent volunteers that serve as Co-Chairs on the Theatre Guild's Board of Directors. Feed the Kids relies on the student stage manager of each production to determine when rehearsal schedules necessitate meals and any dietary restrictions that need to be accommodated. (Meals are typically provided on nights with a scheduled end time after 8:00pm.) Theatre Guild volunteers serve the meals. During College Showcase, Theatre Conservatory Seniors (and the Junior buddies that assist technical theatre Seniors) are provided meals on Showcase Friday and Saturday to allow them to commit fully to their preparation, presentations and performances. Additionally, the Guild's Feed the Kids program provides a variety of snacks for those rehearsals when cast and crew members stay on campus after school but not late enough for a full meal.
