Counting Down the Summer Days
Happy summer, everyone! I hope you are finding time for rest, relaxation, and making memories with friends and family.
A million thanks to the 2024-2025 Theatre Guild Board for all of your time and dedication to our school and students. Look for a "Year in Review" Newsletter coming soon!
Be sure to make time to renew your membership for the upcoming year. Guild members receive weekly newsletters and reminders about theatre conservatory activities and news. The Theatre Guild hosts a monthly membership meeting, Back to School Dinner, and holiday party.
Sponsorships are a great way to support guild activities like Feed the Kids and scholarships. We would love to talk with you about creative ways to contribute to our programs!
The 2025-2026 Theatre Guild Board is counting down the summer days and working on plans for the upcoming school year. We are getting ready for Pegasus Pick Up, Summer Bash, and the Back to School Dinner. Be sure to mark your calendar for all of the important dates in this newsletter, and keep an eye on our social media channels for updates.
We have a mix of returning board members and new faces this year. There are still two open positions on the 2025-26 Board. In addition to their job specific roles, all Board Members are expected to attend monthly Board Meetings and General Membership Meetings. Please reach out to Guild President Alicia Schortgen if you are interested in the role of Treasurer or Showcase Communications Chair.
Happy Summer Booker T Theatre Family!
Now is the time to update your Family and Contact Information with the Theatre Guild in Membership Toolkit. Information must be updated annually after June 30.
The merchandise form provides an easy way to preorder new and limited merchandise! Featured this summer are our new Theatre Guild Confetti shirt and our Metal Theatre Yard Sign. Please make note of the perks that come with your selected membership level. If you choose a membership that includes a yard sign, that will be ready for you at Pegasus Pickup! We also will have a great selection of Theatre Guild swag available at our Pegasus Pickup Store to get you and your student ready for the new year! However, there will not be additional yard signs for purchase. If your membership does not include a yard sign and you would like to purchase one separately, please take advantage of this preorder opportunity.
Complete these forms by July 12, and we can guarantee your merchandise will be available at Pegasus Pickup!
Pegasus Pick-up is Booker T.'s registration day! All students and their parents/guardians pick up schedules, pay for lockers and parking spaces, order yearbooks, take yearbook/ID photos and seniors take their Theatre Conservatory headshots. You can also join the PTSA and guilds, and purchase merchandise. This is not a student drop-off event. There are forms parents must complete.
Pegasus Pick Up will be held on July 30 and 31 as well as on August 1. Typically students attend with their class. The exact dates & times for the classes have not yet been announced and will be provided by Booker T. Washington HSPVA or by the PTSA on behalf of the school. Use this link to the official Booker T Washington HSPVA Activities Calendar
What is Flight School?
Flight School is an annual NEW student orientation designed to introduce students to campus life, academic resources, and provide social opportunities. Students are asked to wear their "I Am Booker T" t-shirt during Flight School. Students that did not attend the family orientation event known as "I Am Booker T. Day," can pick up their t-shirt from the PTSA booth at Flight School on August 1. Students can change into a different outfit to take their yearbook/ID photo for Pegasus Pick-Up that afternoon. Parents will be able to join their student to attend Pegasus Pick-Up to complete the registration process. Exact times will be announced over the summer. The PTSA is instrumental in helping the school run the Flight School program. The PTSA will be providing information about the exact times.
SAVE THE DATE FOR THE THEATRE GUILD END OF SUMMER BASH
Friday August 8
New Theatre Conservatory students & their families are invited to this fun chance to share a meal, learn about what to expect, and make new friends. The Theatre Guild sponsors this party for all students that are new to the Theatre Conservatory. This event is free to attend and dinner will be provided. We ask that each NEW student limit the attendees to their parents/guardians. More details to follow soon!
SAVE THE DATE FOR THE ANNUAL THEATRE GUILD DINNER
Tuesday September 9
Parents & guardians are invited to join the Theatre Conservatory faculty at this annual dinner sponsored by the Theatre Guild. (This is an adults only event.)
More details to follow soon!
Remember to Complete The Annual Background Check
Parent / Adult Volunteers: Please make sure you create or renew your DISD VOLY profile so you're ready to volunteer this school year. This is an easy process that ensures that all volunteers on campus are vetted.
We will be asking for volunteers to help our seniors as they get their showcase headshot photographs taken at Booker T.
The 2025 All School Musical is produced by the Booker T Washington PTSA which means questions about Guys & Dolls should be directed to the PTSA. You will find lots of helpful information on the All School Musical page on the PTSA Membership Toolkit website and in the PTSA newsletters. For example, the playbill for the All School Musical is not a Theatre Guild playbill and any feeding of the kids will be overseen by the PTSA.
Information for Theatre Seniors
Seniors have a lot going on each year. The Guild will use this section of the newsletter to provide specific information about everything related to Theatre Seniors. Be sure to keep an eye out.
Save the date. This year Theatre Seniors will be getting their headshot photos taken during the school day in the first week of classes. The Senior Headshots are the official photos used for the Showcase materials and hug outside the Black Box Theatre.
More details will be provided closer to the start of school.
The September meeting will be held at the Back to School Dinner on Tuesday September 8. More details to follow.
We don't want to miss an appearance or accomplishment! We rely on our guild members to let us know where to spot a Pegasus in the wild. If your Pegasus is in a non-Booker T production, please let us know. Our talented kids are so busy we need your eyes and ears to make sure we get the word out. Please include viewing dates, ticket links and any other details that will help us spot a Pegasus in the Wild. Alumni are Pegasi as well so keep those tips coming in too!!!
If you are the parent or guardian of a Theatre Conservatory student you are invited to join the individual class Facebook group for additional information & updates about everything that is going on at Booker T.
All four class specific Facebook groups are private. These groups are open to members of the Theatre Guild and you will need to provide your BTW student's name and answer the questions in order for your request to join to be approved.
Check out the Theatre Guild website for more information. For the most up to date & comprehensive Booker T calendar entries, you can check the BTWHSPVA Activities Calendar. The Dallas ISD 2025-26 Approved Calendar includes district wide information including school holidays, professional development days and grading periods.
