SUBJECT: Theatre Guild eNews - July 25th - Back to School 2022-23 Guild Newsletter [UPDATED senior headshot link]

July 25, 2022 Back to School Edition
PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Happy 'Almost' Back to School Time! It seems like the summer just started and here we are getting ready for a great new school year. Below you will find lots of great (and important) information for the run up to August 15th.

We’ve been busy behind the scenes as we finish out our 100 year Anniversary for Booker T ‘Two Schools – One Story’ with a bang. There are a lot of activities on tap including Homecoming so make sure to read the newsletter each week for the latest up-to-date information.

The Theatre Conservatory (and Guild) is always jam-packed with activities which require a small army to run successfully. Our supporters are what make the magic happen. There are many opportunities to help and we encourage everyone to get involved. I have found that when we are ‘engaged’ with our children(s)’ endeavors – they flourish and thrive because they see we care about their future and what is important to them.

In keeping with the theme this year (THIS IS HOME) – I want to emphasize that all of the Theatre Conservatory (students/faculty/staff/consultants/families/alumni) are a part of our theatre family. We help each other out and lift each other up. What we do – we do for our theatre family.

I look forward to getting to know all of you this year and if you need anything or have a question – please feel free to reach out to myself or any other board member. We are here to help! Contact information can be found here: https://btwtheatreguild.membershiptoolkit.com/our_board

Pegasus in the Wild

Over the summer and throughout the school year, many of our talented Theatre Conservatory students can be spotted on stage, creating magic behind the scenes or even on screen. Be sure to check out the Theatre Guild Facebook group for opportunities to catch a Pegasus. And let us know where you have spotted a Pegasus in the wild! You can submit the information via Facebook or contact VP Communications Kathy Gameros.

WFAA Daybreak's North Texas Giving Day Kickoff

On July 15th, a dedicated group of Theatre Conservatory students (& their parents) appeared on WFAA Daybreak along with other local non-profit organizations.  It may have been dark when they arrived, but DJ LC got the crowd pumped up to get the word out that North Texas Giving Day will be happening on September 22. The Theatre Guild will be participating in the Communities Foundation of Texas North annual event again this year. Big thanks to all the early risers especially Rhonda  Thompson for organizing this multi-grade level crew!

Theatre student Kai Turner and alums Tremaine Jones, Olivia King, Ava McKay and Gavin Yi can be seen in Cry Havoc Theatre Company's The Art of Broken Things.  This exploration of healing in the aftermath of the COVID-19 Pandemic is in Hamon Hall at the Winspear Opera House through July 31.

ID photos: These will be taken in the library on August 1st, your Pegasus Pick Up Day. If you are unable to come that day please plan come another day that week between Tuesday, August 2 and Thursday, August 4.

Senior Portraits: These photos are used for the yearbook. We use one portrait and one ‘personality’ portrait. Legacy Studios, offers several dates for on campus portraits. It is important to note that you are not required to use this company and are welcome to use any company you want. If you use a different company please be sure to submit the portraits you want in the yearbook. If you aren’t planning to do senior portraits, you can sign up for a free slot on one of the on campus days. This free sitting will just take the photos for the yearbook. If you choose to use Legacy for your photos, you may purchase various packages of photos. There will be dates available in July, October and November for on campus portrait sessions with Legacy Studios. The dates in October and November will open for sign ups closer to those dates.

Cap & Gown portrait: In May, Legacy will return to take Cap and Gown photos. These photos will be available to purchase from Legacy Studios. You may use an outside company but you should be careful with the regalia (i.e. cords, stoles, tassels, etc.) The school is not responsible if you take photos with another company and there is some mistake in your regalia.

Countdown to Showcase 2022

Make sure to mark your calendars. Showcase Week is  Monday November 14th through Saturday November 19th (the week before Thanksgiving break). As of today, there are sixteen weeks until Showcase Week.  Seniors & their parents will be getting lots of information about how to prepare for this annual event after classes begin.

Get Involved

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer during the school year. As the Guild's Volunteer Coordinator Chair, Allison Francis will be seeking out Feed the Kids volunteers to serve meals to the cast & crew during each tech week. Guild members also sell concessions & merchandise before and during intermission at Theatre Conservatory performances.  There will also be lots of events like Back to School Registration, Guild Meetings, Homecoming, Showcase, Arts Fest, I am Booker T Day & Senior Awards Dinner where volunteers will be needed.  Sometimes it's easier to donate items like water or snacks and those requests will also be organized by our Volunteer Coordinator Chair.

Would you like to help the Guild during back to school registration (August 1-4)?
