SUBJECT: Theatre Guild eNews - Special Showcase Edition for the Senior Class

Special Senior Showcase Edition
Two Weeks Until Showcase Week

Our Seniors are on the Road to Greatness... next stop, Senior Showcase!

This year's Guild President Alicia Schortgen, VP of Guild Activities Sandy Duhe, Showcase Communications Chair Sara Johnson and Hospitality Chair Leah Mora have been working together along with the Guild's Senior Committee to support the Theatre Conservatory in making Showcase a huge success for the class of 2025.

All the ways you can get involved before and during Showcase week can be found in this newsletter.  I hope to see many of you on Thursday, November 21st at the Open Rehearsal (9:15am-4:30pm) and Hospitality Setup and on Friday November 22nd at the Film Festival (7-9pm) and Tech Table Preview (9-9:30pm).

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

5 Things That Senior Parents Can Do

BEFORE Showcase Week

1. Donate for Theatre Faculty Thank You Dinners
2. Remind your senior to choose their Showcase fit

Students are supposed to look professional in all Showcase events. Although comfortable shoes are a must, remind your senior that ripped jeans, sneakers, t-shirts and flip flops are NOT appropriate during Showcase performances. If your student has questions about what to wear, they should ask Ms Price or another Conservatory teacher BEFORE November 21st.

3. Make Sure that Hospitality Knows About Your Student's Dietary Restrictions

Students will be eating snacks or meals provided by the Theatre Guild during the Friday & Saturday of Showcase. Of course, your student is always welcome to bring their own food but the Guild wants to make sure that they make an effort to meet student's dietary restrictions. Email:  hospitality@btwtheatreguild.com

4. Decide to Volunteer

Let us know ahead of time if you plan to help set up the College Rep Hospitality Space and the Senior Cafeteria Balcony on November 21 at 5pm.  If you plan to volunteer let us know by signing up here.

Note that the other volunteer shifts that occur during showcase events are not open to senior parent volunteers.

5. Donate Food for Showcase

You can sign up to provide snacks for the 68 seniors showcasing in Theatre events next week.

You can find the wish list here and weekly updates in the enews.

Things That Senior Parents Can Do During Showcase Week
1. Come to the Black Box for Open Rehearsal

Senior Parents are welcome and encouraged to watch the Theatre Conservatory Open Rehearsals on Thursday Nov 21st. The schedule may change a bit to accommodate those who are showcasing in other conservatories. During the first three rotations, students who will be performing monologues at showcase are going to rehearse.

Open Rehearsal Schedule

9:10am School Starts

9:15 am Parents arrive in the Black Box to see first Rotation

  • Rotation 1 Tech Theatre Students who will be showcasing in Acting
  • Rotation 2 Musical Theatre also showcasing in Acting

12:20-1:20 Lunch (no flex bell schedule in effect)

1:25 7th period (afternoon rotations will start)

  • Rotation 3 Acting students (those not showcasing in Tech or MT)
  • Rotation 4 Playwriting/ Physical Theatre Students

***The Open Rehearsal schedule is arranged based on what areas a student showcases in. For example, a senior showcasing in acting AND tech theatre will be in Rotation 1. A senior showcasing in musical theatre (but NOT tech) will be in Rotation 2. Rotation 3 is reserved for actors who will be performing monologues (but do not showcase in Tech or Musical Theatre). Ask your student to confirm which rotationthey will be in, especially if they plan to showcase in the Visual Arts/Dance/Music showcase events as that can affect their rehearsal schedule.

2. Stay to help set up the Hospitality Suite

Senior parents are invited to come to campus after open rehearsal on November 21st to help set up the College Rep Hospitality Space in Ms Jones’s studio (room 174). On Friday evening, parents will be needed to set up the students' lounge in the Senior Cafeteria. Let Tamara know if you plan to volunteer. That's it! You're in! Everyone is welcome! When you enter through the main doors (circle drive) you are on the same floor as the Hospitality Spaces. We will meet in the Senior Cafeteria Balcony.

(Note that the other volunteer shifts that occur during showcase events are not open to senior parent volunteers)

3. Attend the Short Film Screening Friday

Parents, students and all film lovers are invited to this first public screening of the collection of BTW Senior Film Students' short films. All are welcome to attend the Film Showcase in the Montgomery Arts Theatre on Friday November 22 at 7pm.

4. Check out the Tech Table Preview

Please visit the Commons after the tech seniors and their junior buddies finish setting up. Parents have a chance to see what tech seniors have chosen to highlight for showcase.  There lots to see but only a small window of opportunity to see the tech students' hard work.
