PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Midsummer Night's Dream Continues

Thank you to everyone who joined our general meeting via Zoom last Tuesday!  It was a good turnout and we heard about Musical Theatre auditions coming up, Mr. Miller's trip to Young Arts and the performances of Midsummer Night's Dream that continue this week in the MAT.  Make sure and look into volunteering and buying your tickets below. Volunteering is a great way to meet other parents.

If you know anyone that had planned on attending BTW incoming student audition workshops previously scheduled for last week, please share that it has been rescheduled for this evening, the 22nd at 5:00.

Please read on for other dates for the spring semester including playbill ad deadlines and any audition dates we have so far.

Fly High, Pegasi!

Pegasus in the Wild

We don't want to miss an appearance or accomplishment! We rely on our guild members to let us know where to spot a Pegasus in the wild. If your child is in a non-Booker T production, please let us know. Our talented kids are so busy we need your eyes and ears to make sure we get the word out. Please include viewing dates, ticket links and any other details that will help us spot a Pegasus in the Wild. Alumni are Pegasi as well so keep those tips coming in too!!!

Booker T. Mock Trial moves on to Quarterfinals

On Saturday January 20th, the Booker T Mock trial team competed in the first three rounds of the Texas High School State Mock Trial's Dallas ISD Regional Qualifier. This year's team is made up of seven members returning from last year's DISD Championship team: Eryn Anum (2025), Audrey Buehler (2025), Molly Chakery (2024), Olivia Lang (2025), Isabel Gameros (2024), Maxine Louthan (2025), and Erin Mansour (2025). first time team members Miranda Churchhill (2025), Ellie Oddo (Visual 2026), Abigail Smith (2027) and courtroom artist Lola Saldana (Visual 2025). Also returning to coach the 2024 team are lawyer advisors Abby Mathews and Bill Gameros as well Booker T's longtime advisor Satchel Victory who was joined by new faculty advisor Maddie Fulton.

The 2024 competition is a civil case involving a contested holographic will written by an eccentric billionaire aboard an ill fated deep water submersible. Students prepare to present both the Plaintiff and Defense sides of the case. The Mock Trial team held auditions during fall semester and has been meeting to prepare during Mr. Victory's enrichment as well as outside of school. The support and training provided by the Theatre Department is evident in the unique skill set required to succeed at mock trial. High School Mock Trial is NOT a scripted event and as a result, competitors must learn the law, master the rules of evidence and analyze the fact statements for seemingly unimportant inconsistencies in order to strategically utilize them at trial. Once in the courtroom, lawyers and witnesses are expected to actively listen and adapt their reactions. Lawyers must recognize objectionable materials, articulate their legal objections to the presiding judge, and respond to challenges from opposing counsel. Lawyers write and memorize their lengthy opening and closing statements while leaving room to improvise based on the evidence admitted by the court and the arguments made by opposing counsel. Witnesses must stick to the detailed facts contained in their multi-page witness statements and tailor their responses while maintaining poise and never breaking character. Of all the academic and artistic competitions, Mock Trial wholly encompasses the breadth of the Booker T. scholar artist and allows for collaborative creativity.

Booker T Mock Trial has advanced to the quarterfinal round of the DISD regional competition that will be held on Thursday.
