SUBJECT: Theatre Guild eNews - Special Showcase Edition for the Senior Class - October 30 Two Weeks Until Showcase Edition [revised cont

Special Senior Showcase Edition October 30
Two Weeks Until Showcase Week

As senior parents, we are well aware that the coutdown is on...including the two week countdown until Showcase week begins.  Theatre Showcase events will be taking place on Friday November 17th and Saturday November 18th. During this busy season of school, performances, college essay writing, applications, prescreen tapings and auditions; parents of seniors are incredibly busy. Even more so for those parents of students showcasing in multiple disciplines and across multiple conservatories. This year's Guild President Tamara Woodchek, VP of Guild Activities Showcase Alicia Schortgen, Showcase Comunications Chair Cindi Wakefield and Hospitality Chair Amy Buehler have been working together along with the Guild's Senior Committee to support the Theatre Conservaotry in making Showcase a huge success for the class of 2024.

Here are a few reminders, requests and tips that may be helpful to have in one place.  I hope to see many of you at the Open Rehearsal and Hospitality Set Up on November 16th and the Film Festival on November 17th.

5 Things That Senior Parents Can Do

BEFORE Showcase Week

1. Donate for Theatre Faculty Thank You Dinners
2. Remind your senior to choose their Showcase fit

The Showcase Handbook gives guidelines for what to wear. Students are supposed to look professional in all Showcase events. Although comfortable shoes are a must, remind your senior that ripped jeans, sneakers, t-shirts and flip flops are NOT appropriate during Showcase performances. If your student has questions about what to wear, they should ask Ms Price or another Conservatory teacher BEFORE November 17th.

3. Ask if Your Senior's WIX page is Done

Seniors have been working on their WIX pages since junior year. (A WIX page is a personally designed & curated individual website featuring each senior's creative work). November 1st is the deadline to have everything uploaded onto their WIX page AND to provide the link to the conservatory via Google Classroom.

4. Decide to Volunteer

Let us know ahead of time if you plan to help set up the College Rep Hospitality Space and the Senior Cafeteria Balcony on November 16th starting at 5pm (Note that the other volunteer shifts that occur during showcase events are not open to senior parent volunteers) If you plan to volunteer we just want to know. Everyone is welcome!

Things That Senior Parents Can Do During Showcase Week
1. Come to the Black Box for Open Rehearsal

Senior Parents are welcome and encouraged to watch the Theatre Conservatory Open Rehearsals on Thursday Nov 16th. The schedule may change a bit to accommodate those who are showcasing in other conservatories. During the first three rotations, students who will be performing monologues at showcase are going to rehearse.

9:10am School Starts

9:15 am Parents arrive in the Black Box to see first Rotation

  • Rotation 1 Tech Theatre Students who will be showcasing in Acting
  • Rotation 2 Musical Theatre also showcasing in Acting

12:20-1:20 Lunch (no flex bell schedule in effect)

1:25 7th period (afternoon rotations will start)

  • Rotation 3 Acting students (those not showcasing in Tech or MT)
  • Rotation 4 Playwriting/ Physical Theatre Students

***The Open Rehearsal schedule is arranged based on what areas a student showcases in. For example, a senior showcasing in acting AND tech theatre will be in Rotation 1. A senior showcasing in musical theatre (but NOT tech) will be in Rotation 2. Rotation 3 is reserved for actors who will be performing monologues (but do not showcase in Tech or Musical Theatre). Ask your student to confirm which rotation they will be in, especially if they plan to showcase in the Visual Arts/Dance/Music showcase events as that can affect their rehearsal schedule.

2. Stay to help set up the Hospitality Suite

Senior parents are invited to come to campus after open rehearsal on November 16th to help set up the College Rep Hospitality Space in Ms Jones’s studio (room 174) and the student's lounge in the Senior Cafeteria. (Note that the other shifts that occur during showcase events are not open to senior parent volunteers) Please email
Kathy Gameros kgameros@sbcglobal.net or
Jennifer Gilligan gilligan.jennifer@gmail.com
If you plan to volunteer. That's it! You're in! Everyone is welcome! When you enter through the main doors (circle drive) you are on the same floor as the Hospitality Spaces. We will meet in the Senior Cafeteria Balcony.

3. Attend the Short Film Screening Friday

Parents, students and all film lovers are invited to this first public screening of the collection of BTW Senior Film Students' short films. All are welcome to attend the Film Showcase in the Montgomery Arts Theatre on Friday November 17 at 7pm.

4. Tell Your Kid to Break A Leg!

When you send your senior to school for Showcase Events, you may not be there but the Booker T faculty and Theatre Guild volunteers will be looking out for them (and ALL of the seniors)!  The class of 2024 has spent the past four years growing as artists which has prepared them for Senior Showcase. The Theatre Conservatory faculty has been helping them put the finishing touches on their monolgues, portfolios, plays, films and more.
