SUBJECT: Theatre Guild eNews - Special Edition Senior Class - August 30th
Special Edition Senior Class August 30, 2022
Trying to decide who you need to reach out to with Showcase questions?
The Theatre Guild acts in a supporting role to help ensure that the Theatre Conservatory can focus on the seniors' preparation for and the substance of the 2022 Showcase. The Guild serves at the request of the Conservatory Director. It is this supporting role that allows the faculty the time and resources needed to continue the preparation that began in the fall of 2019 when the senior class first entered Booker T. HSPVA.
Showcase Communications Chair Leah Sandock is acting as the liaison between the Theatre Conservatory and all of the colleges, universities and conservatories that are invited by the Theatre Conservatory to our November Showcase. In this newly created Board position, Leah has already reached out to over 725 individuals at more than 200 schools. Leah will keep seniors and their parents updated about which schools will be attending the 2022 Showcase and ways that students can reach out to their target schools to let them know about Showcase. Leah is also assisting the Conservatory as they schedule the speakers that will lead Master Classes / Workshops for the juniors and seniors on November 18th.
As Communications Chair, Kathy Gameros creates the weekly eNews, coordinates the Theatre Guild's social media and provides an additional means for the Conservatory to provide information. Many of your talented Theatre Conservatory seniors can be spotted on stage, creating magic behind the scenes or even on screen. If you know of an opportunity to see your senior Pegasus making magic outside of Booker T. be sure to the share information via the Theatre Guild Facebook group Facebook or email Kathy. Additionally, Kathy updated the 2022 version of Guild's College Tea handout which is now available on the Guild's website or you can ask Kathy to email you the .pdf As the parent of a BTW 2022 alum who is currently attending film school at UT Austin, Kathy is available to answer questions about her experience with Showcase 2021 and/or college applications.
Tamara Woodchek serves as the VP of Guild Activities and Showcase is one of the many activities that she oversees throughout the school year. (You will see her name again for the end of the year Senior Awards Dinner and many times in between.) Tamara will be coordinating the many pieces that come together to create a wonderful Showcase. That includes working together with Hospitality, Showcase Communications, the Conservatory faculty, BTW facilities and the Senior Parent Committee among others.
As the Theatre Guild President, Jennifer Gilligan is setting the course that the Guild should take as it supports the students and faculty. Senior Showcase is but one, albeit very important, aspect of the Theatre Guild's role at BTWHSPVA.
Now that you have an idea of some of what the Guild is currently working with respect to the 2022 Showcase, here is an easy way to reach them.
Second, joining the Theatre Guild gives us an easy way to communicate with the senior class AND their parents/guardians. All you need to do is join and give us your email addresses. You will get the weekly eNews and bonus communications tailored to the senior class.
If you already joined, please check to make sure that your information is up-to-date, please use this link.
Conservatory Zoom for Senior Parents
On August 18th the Theatre Conservatory held a Zoom meeting for parents of seniors, here is the link to the recording. Passcode: Z0*MtYE!
Photographer Vonda Klimaszewski has made all showcase images are available in both high-resolution and social media-sized files. It is now the students/parents responsibility to save both sets of images to a safe place. Vonda recommends that your find two places. She made the shopping cart available for high-quality prints from a professional lab, if you would like better quality prints than Costco or similar.
These are the images that will be used by the Conservatory for all things Showcase. Students are welcome to use their image wherever else they would like (for example applications or WIX page or printed out).
Showcase Week is Monday November 14th through Saturday November 19th (the week before Thanksgiving break). The Theatre Showcase will be on Friday November 18th and Saturday November 19th. Although parents of seniors cannot volunteer at BTW during Showcase Events, the Theatre Guild Board's Senior Parent Committee will arrange opportunities for parents who would like to volunteer with the preparations. Traditionally, the Theatre Guild Board Members with seniors are asked to serve on the Theatre Guild Board's Senior Parent Committee which chooses and implements the theme for the year and takes the lead on selecting the decorations & gifts for Showcase and Senior Awards Dinner. The Senior Parent Committee also provides opportunities for non-Board member parents to volunteer including things like work days before Showcase and setting up the Showcase Hospitality spaces.
