So many great things coming up! We've got info on the PTSA All-School Musical, The Wiz below, as well as the just-released casting news for Puffs and also how to purchase tickets.
Make sure to sign up for our first General Meeting and get-together at El Fenix on September 20th. You will not want to miss this great night. You will get to meet with other Theatre parents as well as mingle with the Faculty and hear about all of the going-ons for this next year.
With just 10 days until opening night of THE WIZ, there have been lots of questions about how to place playbill ads and where to buy tickets. This is also a good chance to learn more about the All-School Musical.
As Executive Producers of the All-School Musical, the Booker T. HSPVA PTSA uses the funds raised from ticket sales, concessions, merchandise and ad sales to provide support and programming to ALL Booker T. students, families and faculty. The PTSA pays for the Remind and Naviance platforms. The PTSA uses a portion of All-School Musical proceeds to fund our Summer Scholarship Program. This year, the PTSA Community + Programs team will host informational programs for students and families to address timely issues like mental health, teen dating and social media. Lastly, the PTSA re-invests funds into the next year’s All-School Musical production, an opportunity for ALL students to audition and be a part of a signature BTWHSPVA performance.
Tickets are now available for the first Theatre Conservatory production of the school year. Ms Cotie will be directing Puffs written by Matt Cox about "Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic." Performances will be at 7pm on October 12, 13, 19, 20 & 21.

Showcase Headshots
All seniors should now have had their senior showcase headshots taken by photographer Vonda Klimaszewski. Every senior's selected photo will be delivered electronically in a single Theatre Conservatory gallery. Note that these headshots were taken as part of the Theatre Conservatory Showcase headshot session for reduced rate per student and as such do not result in individual viewing galleries. Students who purchased extra images on the day of the shoot will receive those additional photos separately but no earlier than the group gallery. Please expect those images mid to late next week.

YoungArts 2023
Every year thousands of performing, visual and literary artists age 15 to 18 apply to YoungArts national competition. In 2022, a number of Booker T. Theatre students were recognized as YoungArts Winners including Theatre Conservatory students: Zariyah Perry (honorable mention FILM), Phoenix Nady (merit THEATRE), and Jaelyn Smallwood (merit THEATRE). YoungArts finalists attend National YoungArts Week where they can collaborate with peers and develop their crafts with internationally recognized leaders in their fields. Finalists in their senior year are further eligible for nomination as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts—one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students. Seniors at Booker T. may sign up to record their submissions during the filming dates on October 1st and 8th. Although the Theatre Conservatory does not tape audition submissions for non-seniors, the competition is open to all students ages 15-18. YoungArts Accepts Applications in 10 Disciplines: Classical Music, Dance, Design Arts, Film, Jazz, Photography, Theater, Visual Arts, Voice, and Writing. There is a $35 application fee. (Students may enter in multiple categories but must pay the $35 fee in each category.) The 2023 YoungArts application closes on October 14, 2022 at 10:59 PM Central Time.
