SUBJECT: Theatre Guild eNews - August 22nd - Week 2 Hitting the Ground Running edition 2022-23 Guild Newsletter

August 22, 2022
PRESIDENT'S CORNER

What a first week we have had so far! The theme of 'FIND THE FUN' was definitely evident in the many super cool and quintessentially 'BTW'  things that happened this week.

The Theatre Conservatory is already off at a furious pace with not only ramping up new and exciting curriculum classes with an electric team of educators - but they have already listed out many of the upcoming performances for auditions (see below). AND lest we forget the upcoming THE WIZ performances coming up this month directed by our very own Theatre Conservatory Directory - Guinnea Bennett Price.

We are well into the 2nd half of the 100-Year Celebration and it shows all over campus. We are very much looking forward to all of the upcoming Homecoming Events and celebrating our 2 Schools - One Story.

if you haven't yet had a chance to see Friday's lunch Flash Mob - check it out below!  This highlights just one of the MANY ways in which BTW is so special. Hope you enjoy!

HAVE AN AWESOME 2ND WEEK!

Special Guest Speaker - Wendy Koster

Zander Pryor is a former Booker T. theatre student (Class of 2020) who is now attending Sarah Lawrence College. As a teenager, he worked as an actor in theatres throughout DFW. His full-length play, Parent, Legal Guardian, Angel, Other, was featured in Undermain Theatre's Whither Goest Thou America festival of new plays this year.

Wendy Koster practiced law for almost 20 years before she took a break to try and figure out her kids. Now that her kids are adult-ish, she splits her time between being an Army/college mom and trying to find a job that isn’t being a lawyer.

Puffs Auditions Are This Week!!

Director Lisa Cotie has scheduled auditions on August 24 & 25 from 5-7pm. Callbacks will be held on August 26 (as needed). Students should check the physical callboard and keep an eye on their Theatre Remind messages for updates.

Students are to prepare two CONTRASTING 1 minute comedic monologues.  Monologue choices should contrast very obviously: different genders, ages, species, aliens, maybe throw in a bad accent. (Director's instructions!) Irreverent monologues preferred. (Also per director's instructions)

Puffs is scheduled to open on October 12th and the run will end on the 21st

Pegasus in the Wild

Over the summer and throughout the school year, many of our talented Theatre Conservatory students can be spotted on stage, creating magic behind the scenes or even on screen. Be sure to check out the Theatre Guild Facebook group for opportunities to catch a Pegasus. And let us know where you have spotted a Pegasus in the wild! You can submit the information via Facebook or contact VP Communications Kathy Gameros via email communications@btwtheatreguild.com

WAYS TO STAY IN THE KNOW
Guild Instagram
Facebook Page
Theatre Guild Instagram, Facebook page and Facebook groups explained

Booker T Washington HSPVA Theatre Guild is a newly created   Facebook page that will allow the Guild to widely share information about performance times or recognition/awards.  You may see FB posts from this page cross posted on the btw_theatre_guild Instagram account. Information shared on both platforms is visible to the public.

BTW Theatre Guild is a public Facebook group that has been used to share information and allows discussion among members.  As a public group, anyone on Facebook can see the group and join without administrative approval.

In addition to these public forums, the Theatre Guild has created private Facebook Groups for students and families in each grade level to join.  You can follow the links to the correct group by choosing your (student's) graduation year. You will be asked to answer two basic questions before your membership will approved. You will need to confirm 1) that you are either a student or the parent/guardian of a current student and 2) provide the student's name. These smaller private groups were designed with the idea of being able to post information relevant to a single grade level, to plan/discuss upcoming events and ask questions without making all the details publicly available.  Each of these private groups are limited to Theatre Guild administrators/moderators and members of the specific class so while the existence of the group is public information, posts are not viewable by non-members.

BTW Theatre Guild Class of 2023 is for Seniors & their families
