SUBJECT: Theatre Guild eNews, November 2, 2021: All In the Timing, 10 Minute Play, Senior Showcase, Holiday Party - the List Goes ON!

November 2, 2021
Theatre Conservatory was All In for DASH
All in the Timing by David Ives

The world according to David Ives is a very odd place, and his plays constitute a virtual stress test of the English language -- and of the audience's capacity for disorientation and delight. Ives's characters plunge into black holes called "Philadelphias," where the simplest desires are hilariously thwarted. Chimps named Milton, Swift, and Kafka are locked in a room and made to re-create Hamlet. And a con man peddles courses in a dubious language in which "hello" translates as "velcro" and "fraud" comes out as "Freud."

At once enchanting and perplexing, incisively intelligent and side-splittingly funny, this original paperback edition of Ives's plays includes "Sure Thing," "Words, Words, Words," "The Universal Language," "Variations on the Death of Trotsky," "The Philadelphia," "Long Ago and Far Away," "Foreplay, or The Art of the Fugue," "Seven Menus," "Mere Mortals," "English Made Simple," "A Singular Kinda Guy," "Speed-the-Play," "Ancient History," and "Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread."

We Need Parents of 9th, 10th & 11th Graders to Make Showcase a Success.

On November 19th and 20th, the 63 Theatre Conservatory seniors in the class of 2022 will be showcasing in film, playwriting, physical theatre, acting, musical theatre, and a multitude of technical theatre areas including: light & sound design, set design and construction, stage management, prop making, hair and stage makeup as well as costume design & construction. The best way to learn about Senior Showcase is to volunteer.  If you want to help, there is a Sign-Up Genius for that!

- You can make phone calls to colleges on your own time between November 3 and 11th

- The faculty have asked for WIX savvy parents to come to BTW during Flex (12:00-12:45pm) to help any seniors needing extra help to finish their virtual audition WIX pages before November 11.

- We rely on parents of 9th, 10th, and 11th graders to volunteer during Showcase on November 18, 19 and 20 because parents of seniors are not allowed to volunteer directly with the seniors or the college reps those days. If you cannot volunteer in person, you can always donate food, drinks, and paper goods.

Stacey Schiffour-Brown

Stacey Schiffour-Brown is the proud mother of a Junior, Azalea Brown, a girl who dreamed of being a Pegasus for as long as she can remember!

She has a Son in 8th grade at Dealey Montessori, two charming Kitties & two neurotic Dogs (a 90 lb Labrodoodle + 6 lb Chihuahua) that run her life.

An Austinite for a good chunk of her days, she is a Longhorn who has also lived in Louisville, New Orleans, St.Louis & Port St. Lucie, Florida…most of that with her husband of 22 years, John. They co-own and run Hawk Restorations, A local construction and building company. She has served on several committees & non-profit groups and loves the feeling of giving back to the community and really getting to know people when you do.

She absolutely loves these creative kids, and she loves to serve at the school in any way that she can.

As a lifelong Art & Psychology student, she is always in awe of the kind of school experience that Booker T brings to each family with a child enrolled here.

She truly believes all creatives can find their niche in this world!
