PRESIDENT'S CORNER
How to Support the Theatre Conservatory - Part II
This week I'm highlighting the workhorses of the Guild, the volunteers. Part I was about the necessary funds that keep us running and Part II highlights the physical labor it takes to keep things running. Finding time to join us in person allows you to meet other parents/guardians, get to know your student's classmates and find out more from their teachers.
Obviously not everyone has a schedule that allows them to be at events in person. If you have a situation where you would love to help but it needs to be from home or at odd hours, we are happy to find ways for you to be involved as well. In the past we have had opportunities for volunteers to make phone calls and there is other backend work that can be done on your own time. Please reach out if you are looking for an opportunity more like that for us to include you in.
Want to find out more about volunteering? Don't miss our next general meeting rescheduled for March 19 after PTSA in the black box at 6:00 p.m.
Volunteers are essential for supporting shows at concession/merchandise/ticket positions. They also man events such as Pegasus Pickup, I Am Booker T Day, and Senior Showcase.
74 out of 286 Theatre Guild members have given at least 1 hour of their time so far this year
14 shows/events have been supported by volunteers
380+ hours of volunteer service accumulated
Senior Showcase required the most hours with 70+ hours of support
9th grade provided the highest numbers of volunteers
11th grade provided the highest number of volunteer hours
5 couples have given time together or separately
*statistics were determined from SignUp Genius slots and don't take into account the time it takes prepping some of these events or help unrelated to specific events, so our numbers are even higher!
Volunteers Needed During Paul Baker
Concessions & dessert donations and volunteers are needed for the 2024 Paul Baker New Plays Festival. All concessions and merchandise sales benefit our amazing students and faculty! Please review the available slots on Sign Up Genius using this link to volunteer for Paul Baker.
We don't want to miss an appearance or accomplishment! We rely on our guild members to let us know where to spot a Pegasus in the wild. If your child is in a non-Booker T production, please let us know. Our talented kids are so busy we need your eyes and ears to make sure we get the word out. Please include viewing dates, ticket links and any other details that will help us spot a Pegasus in the Wild. Alumni are Pegasi as well so keep those tips coming in too!!!
Huge congrats to Maxine Louthan (BTW 2025) who placed 2nd in the Texas Poetry Out Loud Competition. Theatre Conservatory Director Guinea Bennett Price accompanied Maxine to the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. In addition to her prize, Maxine won $250 for the school librarian to purchase poetry books. This was Maxine's third year representing Booker T. at the annual statewide competition.
