How to Support the Theatre Conservatory - Part I
I have been asked multiple times by Theatre Guild members how they can be involved or best support the Theatre Conservatory. Oftentimes they feel guilt if they aren't able to do the same things they see me doing, but I emphatically insist that there are multiple ways to support your child, the faculty and the Guild and to simply find the way that works best for you.
Part I is about financial support and how it is used. Don't skip this section just because you never find yourself able to give that kind of support. I feel it's important that we all know where that money goes and where it comes from.
I tease at each gathering that we are happy to take your money, but it's really a very serious endeavor. Funds come in to the Theatre Guild through paid memberships, ticket, merchandise and concession sales, North Texas Giving Day and specified donations (i.e. marked for Feed the Kids, Conservatory Donation, Musical Theatre, Film). Our Guild budget each year is based on what the faculty needs for productions, consultants, and student support and what we need to stage Guild events.
Please read on to see some more details about what it takes to keep the Theatre Conservatory supported financially. If you have further questions, please reach out!
The Theatre Conservatory puts on more than 9 productions during the year that need funds for set builds, lighting, sound, costumes, rights to shows and more. In addition to those productions, the faculty engages consultants for specialty studies and films seniors for Young Arts and Senior Showcase. Ticket sales are the conservatory's main income for these endeavors, so the guild exists to fill in the gap and provide other services, such as Feed the Kids, that the conservatory feels are crucial for a vital program.
*Musical Theatre and Film Programs operate under separate budgets but share some Theatre Guild Resources like our ticketing system, Sign-up Genius and additional items that allow for economies of scale
School Holiday on Monday Feb.19th!
Backwards Broadway
The Musical Theatre students treated the audience to a series of wonderful performances at Friday evening's sold out Backways Broadway Cabaret fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated and made it a magical night. Kudos to Stacey Brown, Rhonda Thompson, Molly Setnick, Terra Wortley, Leah Sandock and other volunteers for their efforts in spearheading another successful event.
Thanks to Jackie Cooper for the Backward Broadway photos.
We don't want to miss an appearance or accomplishment! We rely on our guild members to let us know where to spot a Pegasus in the wild. If your child is in a non-Booker T production, please let us know. Our talented kids are so busy we need your eyes and ears to make sure we get the word out. Please include viewing dates, ticket links and any other details that will help us spot a Pegasus in the Wild. Alumni are Pegasi as well so keep those tips coming in too!!!
If you are the parent or guardian of a Theatre Conservatory student you are invited to join the individual class Facebook group for additional information & updates about everything that is going on at Booker T.
All Facebook groups are private and you will need to provide your BTW student's name and answer the questions in order for your request to join to be approved.
